machine knitting club
Guild of Machine Knitters - Registered No.5794316
Taunton Machine Knitting Club was started in 1978 and has been popular with a wide number of ladies and gentlemen in Somerset, Devon and surrounding areas. These have all been keen to share their machine knitting knowledge and skills.
Our membership total is currently 20+ and growing constantly.
The current annual subscription fee is £10.00 per member. with an entry fee of £3 per meeting and £5 for visiting demonstrators.
Visitors are welcome at no cost for the first three meetings, and then paying £5 per visit thereafter - unless of course you wish to become a member.
Our Annual General Meeting is usually held in March.
Some of our members are also members of the Guild of Machine Knitters
Members are encouraged to share any other hobbies they may have with the club and these have proved to be very popular evenings.
Club members work on charity knits – for example knitting colourful knee blankets for local care homes, premature baby garments, hats & scarves and t-shirt sweaters for overseas charities.
A club competition is held annually, this year it was something for the home.
We try to organise a visiting designer to come to our club for a ‘hands-on’ workshop at which members tackle various techniques based on the work of the designer.
Occasionally we hold Saturday workshops where those interested, bring along their machines and we get to grips with a particular technique or an accessory i.e.using a colour-changer, garter bar or lace carriage. Many of us have these accessories and don't use them. We also try out various stitch techniques and ribber works.
Some members visit the “MKM Machine Knitting Live!” exhibition in Bournemouth on the first Saturday in March travelling by minibus.
We offer a warm welcome to anyone interested in learning more about machine knitting, whether a beginner or an experienced machine knitter. Please contact us if you would like to attend a meeting. If you are unable to get to our Taunton meetings, we can supply details of other machine knitting clubs in the West Country or you can visit the web site of the Guild of Machine Knitters.
